We’re really proud of you for taking this step, and we’re so glad you found us.
Are you between the ages of 18-24? Are you part of the LGBTQ+ community? Are you currently experiencing housing instability or homelessness because of your sexual orientation or gender identity/expression? Are you looking for a place that will welcome and accept you for who you are and help you get moving toward living independently? If you’ve answered yes to these questions, you’re in the right place.
First, if you are in immediate need of housing today, we suggest contacting one of the emergency shelters in our community. More information can be found here: Are You Experiencing Homelessness? — Indy CoC or you can call 211 and ask for emergency housing/shelter options. Trinity Haven does not have immediate housing available, as both of our programs have an interview process before placement. We can certainly continue to work through the application process if you are eligible and interested in our programs; but we want you to know up front that we do not have emergency or immediate housing options at Trinity Haven.
Our Housing Programs
Trinity Haven offers two safe and affirming housing options for LGBTQ+ young people who need support: our Transitional Living Program, a longer-term, home-like space with access to life skills and resources, and our Collaborative Housing Program, where young people are matched with welcoming volunteer hosts for shorter stays. Both programs are designed to meet you where you are—and help you take your next step forward.
Transitional Living Program
It is a shared housing option available for LGBTQ+ youth/young adults who are ages 18-24 and who are residents of Indiana. In this program, you would live with up to nine young people who are all trying to move into independence too. You would live together, creating community, learning from each other, and working hard to achieve your goals.
Please note: this is a program, and you are expected to work it. This means participating fully, to the best of your ability.
Transitional Living Program
In this program, we ask you to do the following things:
- Attend the House Circle every week to give/receive updates about the house and program.
- Meet with the Director of Programs at least every other week to check in on your progress and any concerns you might have.
- Meet with the Program Engagement Specialist at least every other week to work on your Personal Plan for Independent Living – that’s your roadmap to achieving your goals.
- Participate in community events and activities
- Enroll in school or a training program, get a job, or both!
- Take care of your health and wellness so you can thrive.
- Do your assigned chores every day, your laundry once a week, and keep your room clean.
- Follow the golden rule – treat others the way you would want to be treated. Kindness matters!
Collaborative Housing Program
Sharing a house with 9 other people isn’t for everyone. And not everyone needs up to two years to gain their independence.
Our Collaborative Housing Program was created specifically for LGBTQ+ youth and young adults, but all young people may apply. Collaborative Housing are a short-term intervention for youth/young adults experiencing housing instability, who just need a little bit of time and support to move on into independent living.
Collaborative Housing Program
All of the same resources in the Transitional Living Program are available to the young people in this program:
- Short-term housing (up to 6 months) created for LGBTQ+ young people ages 18-24 from Indiana
- LGBTQ+ young people choose to live with hosts (when hosts are available), who are vetted and trained individuals and families in our community (primarily in Indianapolis/Marion County but planning to expand statewide)
- Based on the national model developed by Point Source Youth
- If there are no hosts available, Trinity Haven and the young people collaborate to determine safe options for short-term housing
